planet, as it offers <strong>energy security and reduction<\/strong> of climate change<strong><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"w-separator size_small\"><\/div><h4 class=\"w-text us_custom_14eaf422 has_text_color icon_atleft\"><span class=\"w-text-h\"><i class=\"fal fa-exclamation-triangle\"><\/i><span class=\"w-text-value\">Problem: a future made of waste?<\/span><\/span><\/h4><div class=\"wpb_text_column\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><p><span>The average lifespan of a photovoltaic panel is 25 years.<br \/>\nThe first installations date back to the 2000s, so a significant increase in end-of-life photovoltaic panels is expected around 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span>Mechanical treatment based on shredding photovoltaic panels is the only recycling approach currently available on an industrial scale, but its low yield has not yet allowed photovoltaic panel recycling to become an economically attractive activity.<\/span><\/h4>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section><section class=\"l-section wpb_row height_medium color_alternate\"><div The remaining powder, in addition to glass and plastic, contains silicon and silver, but it is sent to landfill or used for very low-value applications as a substitute for sand.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"vc_col-sm-3\/5 wpb_column vc_column_container\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner us_custom_36033357\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><div class=\"w-iconbox us_custom_2fb981ac us_animate_this iconpos_left style_default color_primary align_left\"><div class=\"w-iconbox-icon\" style=\"font-size:2rem;\"><i class=\"fal fa-arrow-right\"><\/i><\/div><div class=\"w-iconbox-meta\"><h4 class=\"w-iconbox-title\">Low recovered value<\/h4><div class=\"w-iconbox-text\"><p>The value of the materials recovered by these plants reaches only \u20ac147\/tonne (Boris Lesjean, Veolia, EIT RawMaterials Expert Forum 2022), less than 30% of the potential value that could be achieved if silver and silicon were also recycled. size_small\"><\/div><div class=\"wpb_text_column\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><h4>The <strong>thermo-mechanical treatment<\/strong> validated with our <strong>experimental plant<\/strong> (<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.9tech.it\/processo-9-tech\/#Prototipo-9PV\">9PV Prototype<\/a><\/strong>) and <strong>industrialised<\/strong> with the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.9tech.it\/impianti-9pv-up\/\"><strong>9PV-Up Plant<\/strong>.<\/a><\/strong><span><\/span><br \/>\nIn addition, there is a great deal of other research aimed at the<span>complete<\/span> <strong>valorisation<\/strong> of <strong>raw materials from photovoltaic<\/strong> panels<span>.<\/span><span><\/span><\/h4>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div The plant has already proven to have very high energy efficiency and the ability to recover materials in a form pure enough to be reused as secondary raw material.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"vc_col-sm-3\/5 wpb_column vc_column_container  stretched\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner us_custom_aec914f8 us_animate_this\"><div <strong>silicon<\/strong>, <strong>aluminium<\/strong> and <strong>silver<\/strong>. Silver is by far the material with the highest specific value within a photovoltaic panel, so a treatment was developed that exploits the mechanical action of ultrasound and <strong>low-environmental-impact reagents<\/strong> for its recovery.<\/p>\n<p>In January 2023, the <strong>patent application<\/strong> for the process was filed.<\/p>\n<p>The development of this part of the treatment was carried out thanks to winning the <a href=\"https:\/\/group.intesasanpaolo.com\/it\/sala-stampa\/news\/il-mondo-di-intesa-sanpaolo\/2022\/call-for-ideas-progetti-transizione-ecologica\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">InactionESG<\/a> <strong>first prize<\/strong> from Intesa SanPaolo Vita and Fideuram Vita, received in 2022.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section><section class=\"l-section wpb_row
